Content Strategy: SYNDICATION P&R/NATPE 2022 Preview

by Lisa Hollaender | VP, Director of Content Strategy . January 21, 2022

The last two syndication seasons have been more than challenging, we try and find positive stories, solutions and move forward. With that said, NATPE 2022 was scheduled to take place last week, but was cancelled due to the Covid-19/Omicron surge. The cancellation was close to the actual conference date so even a virtual meeting wasn't able to happen. NATPE plans to host something later in the year whether it be virtual or in-person. The cycle continues. While Fall 2022 will begin in September with a bunch of freshman series such as Jennifer Hudson, Karamo, Teen Court, Pictionary, We the People and more; sophomore series such as You Bet Your Life and Young Sheldon; and renewed for fourth seasons, Kelly Clarkson and Tamron Hall; it will go on without some long running series. Ellen leaves the talk show circuit with a legacy of 19 successful seasons (who will take over that mantle?). Dr. Oz, who had to shut down production in the middle of his 13th season when he decided to run for political office, leaves a time period hole, prompting a quick replacement with The Good Dish. Following in the footsteps of Judge Judy and Jerry Springer, Maury returns in the Fall, but only with a stable of repeats (enter Karamo). A big question still remains as to the status of Wendy Williams -- she has not returned yet this season and continues to have guest hosts sit in her chair -- will she return or will another "talker" (some names have been rumored) emerge in her place? Only time will tell. (Disclaimer: Not all new or returning series were mentioned above.)

This year we present to you Katz Television's annual NATPE Preview (we're calling it a SYNDICATION P&R since there was no actual NATPE) in an interactive format. The visual presentation showcases the profiles of possible new syndicated programs available for Fall 2022. KTG’s Content Strategy strives to be insightful of the challenges of producing and airing successful content in an ever-changing marketplace. We try and keep our client stations as informed as possible on the performance of broadcast syndication and of potential programming opportunities for local line-ups and stations’ future strategies. There will be more information available over the next few months and updates to this presentation and the "Syndication Guide" will be made. Take a look...

Keep in mind the information contained in this preview is ALWAYS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

    Here’s to a successful year!

Be well and continue to stay safe. Stay tuned...
